About My Illustrations
The illustrations shown below are 20 Chinese mythical creatures that I believe are more well known than other creatures. Other than the creature itself, I also added a human figure in the illustration since it is believed that these creatures often shapeshift into a human form when they gain enough magical powers. The clothing the figures wear is called hanfu, which is the traditional clothing in Chinese culture. There are many types of hanfu, and their styles evolved from one dynasty to the next. I tried to correlate the clothing of some of the figures with the common clothing style in the dynasty where they have the most influence, but in most cases, I relied on visual aesthetics and even made up a few items of clothing. Most of the backgrounds I illustrate are aimed to include either the homeland of these creatures or something that correlates with that creature’s personality, duty, or hobby.
